A former Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health administrator has been indicted on charges of health care fraud and embezzlement of nearly $100,000.

Christina Hernandez, 39, appeared in federal court in Fresno Monday and pleaded not guilty to the 11-count indictment. A resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, Hernandez used to be a provider relations specialist for the county, responsible for administering mental health services to Medi-Cal beneficiaries.

The indictment alleges that Hernandez submitted claim forms for services that were never actually provided, and subsequently cashed the reimbursement checks for her own benefit. She’s also accused of stealing reimbursement checks that the county issued to doctors for actual medical services rendered.

Hernandez is alleged to have stole $98,560 from the Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health.

If convicted, Hernandez faces a maximum statutory penalty of ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
