Dr. Drew Pinsky will kick off Fresno City College’s Speakers Forum beginning Feb. 9.


Celebrity physician Pinsky starred in the reality series Celerity Rehab with Dr. Drew and the radio show Loveline with Adam Carolla.

Pinsky, an addiction medicine specialist, will speak on “Facing Addiction and Substance Abuse” in the Old Administration Building Auditorium at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Also coming up in the series:

Dr. Neil Shubin, “Your Inner Fish,” Wednesday, March 15, 12 PM, OAB Auditorium.
Paleontologist, professor of anatomy, and host of the PBS series Your Inner Fish, Dr. Shubin will speak about his discoveries on human evolution and will have audiences look at themselves and the world in an illuminating new light. Dr. Shubin is the author of two popular science books, The Universe Within and the best-selling Your Inner Fish.

Peter Cook, Deaf Performance Artist, Thursday, March 30, 7:00 PM, Theatre
Peter S. Cook is an internationally reputed Deaf performance artist whose works incorporates American Sign Language, pantomime, storytelling, acting and movement.  Peter has traveled extensively around the country and abroad with Flying Words Project to promote ASL Literature with Kenny Lerner since 1986. Peter teaches at Columbia College in Chicago.

The Slants, The Band that Went to the US Supreme Court, presentation and concert, (Asian American History Month)- Monday, April 3, 12 PM, OAB Auditorium
Portland’s The Slants is the first and only all-Asian American dance rock band in the world. For the past six years they have been embroiled in a court case to trademark their name, a case that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Band leader Simon Tam will tell us how they fought to trademark the band’s name when at first they were told it was racist and derogatory.  They will then pick up their instruments and give FCC a special live performance.
