“Diversity in Business 2020,” The Business Journal’s supplement on the communities that make up the Valley’s diverse economic landscape, won a national award for excellence this week.

It was one of two awards The Business Journal was honored with by the Alliance of Area Business Publishers’ (AABP) Editorial Excellence Awards. The program highlights excellent journalism being practiced at business-to-business publications all over the US, Canada and as far as Australia.

“Diversity in Business 2020” received a silver award for small-circulation journals in the category of Best Ancillary Publication. Faculty in the University of Missouri School of Journalism judges the annual competition.

“This covers important issues and does a great job of capturing the diversity of Fresno,” according to judge’s comments on “Diversity in Business.” “The subjects of the many profiles are people trying to make a difference in their community. Of note is “Vision Without Limits,” about women teaching classes on building wealth.”

That story features Laneesha Senegal and her Vision View Business Formation Center in Fresno, where she focused on spreading wealth-building strategies to her community.

The Business Journal won a bronze award for Best Overall Design.

“The Business Journal” also won a bronze award in the Best Overall Design – Small Tabloids category.

“This publication is full of news without being gray or dense,” according to the judge’s notes. “The covers are above average. The ‘In the Blink of an Eye’ cover story about Covid-19 is exceptional. The table of contents sells and helps readers navigate the publication. The organization is consistent from issue to issue, which helps readers quickly find their favorite departments.”
