Dick’s Sporting Goods will hold a series of special events later this month to mark the opening of its new store in the Marketplace at River Park shopping center that will include Oakland Raider Running Back Latavius Murray signing autographs.


The new store, at 7572 N. Blackstone Ave., is one of three being opened across the country this month by the sporting goods giant, making it the 49th in California.

A soft opening is scheduled for March 22-23 at the new Fresno Dick’s, followed by the grand opening over the next three days.

Among the events planned:

– March 24: Members of the Fresno Fuego soccer team will appear from 5-7 p.m.
Adidas t-shirts will be given to the first 100 customers.

– March 25: Murray will sign autographs from noon to 2 p.m. To get an autograph, you must have a wristband that will be distributed after the store opens at 8 a.m.
“Mystery” gift cards valued up to $500 will be given to the first 100 adults in line

– March 26: Read, Set, Roll Youth Challenge, a competition of skill and agility for children 6 to 15 years old from noon to 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded.

The Fresno Grizzlies’ mascot, Parkers, will appear from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Mystery” gift cards valued up to $500 will be given to the first 100 adults in line.
