Community Health System’s Office of Philanthropy announced a $30 million construction milestone for the Bob Smittcamp Family Neuroscience Institute this week.

The facility is currently under construction at the Community Regional Medical Center in Downtown Fresno. It will span over 60,000 square feet and provide state-of-the-art neurological care, research, and rehabilitation. Specialized spaces will also be available for examinations, treatments, infusions, diagnostics and peer-support groups.

The anticipated opening will be in the summer of 2026.

“With the support of generous donors, local businesses and our campaign committee, I am thrilled to announce we have hit our $30 million construction goal and work has started on the institute,” said Katie Zenovich, senior vice president for development and external affairs at Community Health System.

Attendees from the local media had the opportunity to engage with neuroscience physicians and explore medical technology through live demonstrations on Tuesday.

Vendors such as Boston Scientific, Monteris and Penumbra showcased some of the advancements in neurological treatments, including virtual reality tours and procedures like Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson’s patients. Monteris Medical presented the NeuroBlate, a minimally invasive laser therapy used in brain surgery to destroy tumors and abnormal cells.
