Central Valley communities will mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with memorial ceremonies, military flyovers, a blood drive and student tributes beginning Thursday.

Observances across Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare counties will honor those killed in the attacks and the first responders who responded. Most events take place Friday, Sept. 11, with additional commemorations Saturday and the following week.

Lemoore College remembrance — Lemoore

Lemoore College will begin its observance Thursday, Sept. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union, 555 College Ave. The campus community is invited to view educational materials and a tribute video and participate in an activity displaying victims’ names.

California 9/11 Memorial ceremony — Clovis

Citizens, first responders and military personnel will gather Friday, Sept. 11, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. for the annual ceremony at 3485 Never Forget Lane.

Fresno City College memorial — Fresno

Fresno City College will hold a memorial event Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Veterans Square on campus, 1101 E. University Ave., inviting attendees to honor and reflect on the attacks.

Firebaugh Center remembrance — Firebaugh

Coalinga College’s Firebaugh Center will hold a remembrance gathering Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the center’s lobby, 900 O St.

Courthouse Park memorial — Madera

A memorial marking the attacks’ 25th anniversary begins Friday at 9 a.m. at Courthouse Park, 210 W. Yosemite Ave., according to the Madera Chamber of Commerce calendar.

Madera Community College remembrance — Madera

Madera Community College will hold its Day of Remembrance Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the campus flagpole, 30277 Avenue 12.

Tulare Rotary memorial blood drive — Tulare

The Central California Blood Center and Tulare Rotary Club will host their 20th annual memorial blood drive Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Tulare Veterans Memorial Building, 1771 E. Tulare Ave.

A 7 a.m. ceremony includes an honor guard, memorial bell ringing and a firefighter’s prayer. Donation appointments are available through the blood center or at 559-389-5433.

Tulare County remembrance — Visalia

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department invite the community to honor victims and responders Friday at 8 a.m. at their headquarters, 833 S. Akers St.

Friday evening observances include events in Fresno and Hanford, along with a speaker program and water tower lighting in Clovis.

Todd Beamer Park remembrance — Fresno

The seventh annual Ceremony of Remembrance begins Friday at 6 p.m. at Todd Beamer Park, 1890 E. Plymouth Way. Scheduled tributes include F-15 and sheriff’s helicopter flyovers. Attendees should bring lawn chairs because seating is limited.

Anniversary speaker program — Clovis

Former Assistant Secretary of the Air Force Michael Montelongo will speak Friday at 6 p.m. at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District, 808 Fourth St. The program is part of the district’s 80th anniversary speaker series.

Old Town water tower lighting — Clovis

Clovis will illuminate its water tower in red, white and blue Friday at 8 p.m. during a ceremony at Fifth Street and Veterans Parkway. Montelongo, who was inside the Pentagon during the attacks, will join local speakers. The event also recognizes America’s 250th anniversary.

Hanford Elks Lodge ceremony — Hanford

Hanford Elks Lodge will hold a ceremony Friday at 6 p.m. at 506 N. Douty St. Uniformed first responders can eat free from 4 to 6 p.m., according to ABC30.

Commemorations continue Saturday and the following week with a golf tournament, student recognition and a stair climb.

Otis Tolbert memorial golf tournament — Lemoore

The seventh annual Lt. Cmdr. Otis Tolbert 9/11 Memorial Golf Tournament begins Saturday, Sept. 12, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at Lemoore Golf Course, 350 Iona Ave. The event supports the Otis Vincent Tolbert 9/11 Memorial Fund.

One Voice student awards — Clovis

One Voice — The Spirit of 9/12 will recognize student art and poetry Saturday at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District, 808 Fourth St. A reception begins at 10 a.m., followed by awards at 10:30 a.m. Entries reflect on the unity that followed the attacks.

Fresno City College stair climb — Fresno

Fresno City College will hold a separate 9/11 Stair Climb on Friday, Sept. 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m. at Ratcliffe Stadium.
