A Buchanan graduate and business major is making a splash in the tech scene, pitching his way to the final four of the Sacramento Kings Technology Startup Competition.

Central Valley native Gabriel Sigala, a business major at Sacramento State and graduate of Buchanan High School, is the co-founder of Splash Technologies — a service offering automated pool chemical testing.

Started in 2016, the Sacramento Kings Technology Startup Competition was the first of its kind in the NBA to rely on crowdsourcing. People have the opportunity to vote for their favorite.

Sigala and his team are competing for $10,000 to further develop their business. Competitors also receive pitch coaching, workshops and the opportunity to present their ideas to investors, executives and the community.

“Splash is a product that measures all of your pool’s chemicals at one time and then, through our AI-powered app, we’re then able to give you step-by-step instructions on how to balance your pool,” Sigala said in a pitch video.

Sacramento State President Luke Wood voiced his support for Sigala, urging students and the community at large to vote for Sigala and Splash Technologies online.

“From now until halftime at the Kings vs. Denver Nuggets, April 9, you can vote for Splash,” he said. “Let’s get our Hornet family to support the number one spot.”

In addition to the California-based competition, Sigala and his team are also in the finals for the EFEST Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Competition in Minneapolis.
