The Central California Women’s Conference (CCWC) announced Wednesday it will host Princeton graduate, CEO, board member, model, advocate and renowned Hollywood actress Brooke Shields as the keynote speaker at the 34th conference later this year.

Taking place on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the CCWC is the largest women’s event in the Central Valley.

Shields, whose documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields recently aired on Hulu, will speak candidly about her public life and career trajectory, living with an alcoholic parent and her experiences in motherhood.

Her podcast – Now What? – launched last year on iHeart features Shields sitting down with authors, experts and celebrity guests to discuss how they were able to get through challenging life experiences.

In 2021, Shields became CEO of “Beginning is Now,” a global community of women of all ages to find strength, wisdom, optimism, humor and more while living life on their own terms. She also serves on the board of Women in Need (WIN), an organization that advocates for homeless women and children in New York City.

“Brooke Shields is a survivor, a force, and a person our attendees can truly find a way to relate to!” says CCWC board President Teri Amerine. “Brooke Shields is a real win for the Central California Women’s Conference and the Valley as a whole!”

This year’s conference theme is Believe in Your Voice, and aims to remind attendees to value themselves, follow their passions and show confidence in their convictions.

Conference attendees can choose three breakout sessions to attend throughout the day of the event. Topics of the sessions will include career development, health and fitness, money and finance and more.

“Each year our team really looks and listens to the needs of the community,” Amerine said. “This year’s lineup is sure to offer something for everyone. CCWC offers a day of information, networking, fun, a little ‘retail therapy’ and maybe a few surprises for the hard-working women of this Valley.”

More than 175 businesses and nonprofits will be in attendance at the conference Marketplace and Community Corner to share their products and services.

Tickets to the event go on sale Thursday, June 15 and will be available at ccwc-fresno.org.

In addition to hosting the annual conference, the CCWC recently announced a donation totaling $100,000 to 50 Valley nonprofit organizations including CASA of Fresno and Madera Counties, Poverello House and The Light House Recovery Program.

The donations, which bring the total donated amount by the organization to over $1.3 million, aim to benefit services ranging from women’s health to food, shelter, clothing, education and more.

The CCWC, which presented the nonprofits with the donation on May 31, did so at the Nené Casares Celebration of Service Grant Reception. Casares retired from the CCWC Board of Directors in 2020 after serving as board president for over 10 years.

“Nené has always had the CCWC mission at heart, and in many ways became the heartbeat of our mission.” Amerine said. “Naming the Grant Reception after her will continue her philanthropic nature.”

The CCWC has hosted nearly 100,000 women at its conferences throughout its 34 year history.
