There’s one more week left of voting for Best of Central Valley Business, and I wanted to offer some tips to businesses on how to get the most out of this awards program.

This is the third year we have conducted Best of Central Valley Business voting, and with that experience we decided to save voters some time by listing top vote-getters. The top five vote winners from last year are included as options, in addition to an option to write-in your favorite business in that category if it’s not already listed.

This has proven slightly controversial with some folks in the business community who feel like it disadvantages businesses that aren’t as well established or known by the local business community. That’s a debate worth having, but I wanted to remind everyone that you really can write in any business you want from Fresno, Kings, Tulare and Madera counties. Those votes well count the same as the others.

When we started this program, we really banked on businesses reaching out to their own customer/client base to encourage them to vote. The perennial top vote getters have proven that strategy year after year. You business owners out there, you each have an extensive network of people to call on, even family. There’s a good chance they all have internet access and smart phones. So send an email or a Facebook post asking them to support your business. The Business Journal has also uploaded the current 2016 logo of our Best of Central Valley Business program. We encourage businesses that want to drum up some votes to use it in their own outreach, just to jazz things up a bit. https://thebusinessjournal.com/bestoflogo

Also, remember when voting that voters must select winners in a minimum of 10 out of 30 categories. That’s to ensure people aren’t just going online to vote for their favorite in one category, and leaving all the rest blank.

With a week left, we have already had nearly 64,000 individual votes cast. We’re quite pleased with the results, and we hope local businesses with a loyal following are able to get into the act as well.

May the Best of Central Valley Business win!
