Fresno has landed on the embarrassing side of many lists — Drunkest City in America, the least park space — but the latest ranking is enough to make someone feel low as a Downward Facing Dog.
Lawn care services website lawnlove.com released its list of Best Cities for Outdoor Yoga for 2021, and Fresno appears dead last at No. 86. We were beat out by Phoenix (No. 79), which hit 115 degrees for four consecutive days last month; Detroit (No. 80), which had 41 inches of snow last winter; and New Orleans (No. 36), which is the second-most rainiest city in the U.S. with an average of 62.45 inches per year.
Of course, weather wasn’t the only factor lawnlove.com used to create its rankings. Other metrics include yoga instructors per capita, average instructor rating, price per session, air quality, average yard square footage and average Google search interest for the word “yoga.”
Factors placing Fresno last include having among the fewest yoga instructors per 100,000 residents (only Arlington and El Paso, Texas had fewer). Fresno was also ranked last for instructor rating and nearly last for yoga popularity.
For those who are curious Greensboro, North Carolina was ranked the best place in the country for outdoor yoga, with “the best combination of high-quality yoga instruction, affordability, and environmental factors,” according to lawnlove.com.
Fun fact: Greensboro has “trap yoga,” set to the soothing, rhythmic style of trap music.
