Well, that was a bummer.

Multiple local media outlets are reporting today that Cracker Barrel, which indeed signed a lease for a Fresno location, is not coming to Fresno after all.

Details seem to be scant. FOX 26 is reporting that it has confirmation from the developer, Rich Development Enterprises, that the Southern-fried chain restaurant is Fresno-bound no more.

The Fresno Bee’s reporting is based on two unnamed sources.

In addition, the Marketplace at El Paseo website — the shopping center near Herndon Avenue and Highway 99 where the restaurant was supposed to be going — no longer is listing Cracker Barrel as a business that is “coming soon.”

The Bee is also reporting that Cracker Barrel officials say a planned Victorville location will be the restaurant’s first California location when it opens in 2018.

I have to be honest — I’ve never eaten there so I don’t understand the hype. But it seems like the Fresno internets will likely lose its collective mind on this news.

Such is the fickle world of bricks-and-mortar retail in 2017 I suppose.
