The Wonderful Company announced Wednesday that it will donate 620,000 seedless, easy-to-peel Wonderful Halos to the Central California Food Bank (CCFB), aiming to provide residents a healthy and delicious, locally-produced snack.
The donation, part of The Wonderful Company’s commitment to support local residents, will see food banks at Life Free Will Baptist Church, Buchanan High School and Harmony Hope Chest Pantry provided with the Mandarin oranges.
Last year, The Wonderful Company donated 3.6 million Halos to food banks across the state.
The announcement came the day before the CCFB issued a statement warning residents of the House Agriculture Committee’s advancement of legislation that could see a $300 billion cut from programs that provide assistance, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known in California as CalFresh.
“We urge our representatives to oppose this legislation when it moves to the House floor,” wrote CCFB co-CEO Natalie Caples in a news release Thursday. “These fundamental changes to SNAP are bad for food banks, farmers, local grocers, and ultimately for the communities we serve.”
The CCFB works with many local farmers and producers like The Wonderful Company to serve over 300,000 monthly community members through a number of programs.
