Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver and Fresno native Xavier Worthy will return home this Fourth of July weekend to host a series of community giveback events supported by his nonprofit, The Worthy 1’s Foundation.

Worthy, who appeared in Super Bowl 59, grew up in the Valley and played football at Central East High School, will headline three days of activities geared towards mentoring young athletes, celebrating local families and supporting single mothers and children.

He hosted similar events in Fresno back in February after his standout Super Bowl appearance.

The weekend will kick off Saturday, July 5, with a youth football camp, hosting 400 local kids at the Edison High School athletic field at 540 E. Cesar Chavez Ave.

On July 6, Chukchansi Park will honor the wide receiver with “Worthy Night,” where Worthy will throw out the first pitch prior to the Fresno Grizzlies’ matchup with the Modesto Nuts. The ceremony will also feature a recreation of a photograph taken with his mother, Nicky Jones, 13 years ago.

Exclusive Worthy jersey packages, raffles and a silent auction will also be held, with proceeds benefiting The Worthy 1’s Foundation.

“We can’t wait to welcome Xavier back to Fresno on July 6th! It is always exciting to have the opportunity to celebrate local legends here at Chukchansi Park and are looking forward to seeing the community support him as he delivers our first pitch,” said Fresno Grizzlies Director of Marketing and Communications Jonathan Bravo.

The weekend will conclude Monday with a private, invite-only meet and greet for Edison Tigers Football & Cheer athletes. The closed events will feature remarks, a Q&A session, photo op and surprise donation.

Founded by Worthy and his mother, The Worthy 1’s Foundation aims to empower single mothers and their children through a number of support programs including scholarships, mentorship programs, mental wellness workshops and community events.
