Rep. Jim Costa of Fresno announced Monday that Sarah Park, an 11th grade student from Visalia, has won the 2024 Congressional App Challenge in California’s 21st District, which Costa represents.
The contest runs throughout the school year and the deadline to submit the application was October.
Park created an app called “MyPie.” The app is a diet tracking tool that allows users to track their daily food portions in five categories: protein, vegetables, fruits, grains and dairy.
“Winning the Congressional App Challenge is an incredible honor, and I am grateful for this opportunity to showcase my app,” Park said in a news release. “My Pie is a simple diet tracking tool based on the MyPlate diagram, inspired by my personal journey to improve my health and the realization that you truly are what you eat. This experience has shown me that with the right mindset, anyone can bring their ideas to life through code.”
According to the release, Park is aspiring to become an attorney and is “driven by her strong understanding of the law and her passion for helping others.”
“Sarah Park’s innovative app, MyPie, showcases the creativity and talent this competition is designed to inspire,” Costa said. “By addressing a real-world issue like healthy eating habits, Sarah has demonstrated the power of technology to improve lives and strengthen communities. I am proud of her achievement and excited for her future.”
