The Fresno Grizzlies announced Monday that it will host award-winning country music superstar Thomas Rhett at Chukchansi Park on Oct. 20, adding to the list of notable world-famous performing artists that the stadium has hosted.
Rhett, who has marked 22 No. 1 singles and 15 billion streams, added Chukchansi to his list of tour dates as part of the new “Music on the Diamond” series, which features top artists performing in iconic minor league baseball stadiums.
“Having Thomas Rhett here in downtown Fresno is an incredible opportunity for our team and our community as a whole,” said Fresno Grizzlies president Derek Franks. “We constantly look to raise the bar when it comes to entertainment here at Chukchansi Park, and when DBH came to us with the opportunity to be a part of the ‘Music on the Diamond’ concert series, we were thrilled to embrace the concept.”
Rhett, who has been coined a “prince in the genre” by USA Today, has received eight ACM Awards, including Entertainer of the Year. He has also received two CMA Awards, five Grammy Awards nominations, as well as additional Billboard Awards, iHeartRadio awards and other accolades.
The “Music on the Diamond” tour is a first-of-its-kind offering from Grizzlies new owner, Diamond Baseball Holdings, which acquired the team last November.
“Bringing exciting new events and experiences that foster community and draw more people to our ballparks has been a goal of ours at DBH since the very beginning, so launching ‘Music on the Diamond’ is a momentous occasion for us,” said Pat Battle and Peter Freund, Executive Chairman and CEO of DBH, respectively. “Minor League ballparks provide some of the most unique atmospheres for entertainment and we’re thrilled to see these cornerstones of the community open their doors to the public as often as possible.”
Country star Miranda Lambert is also part of the “Music on the Diamond” tour, with dates scheduled in June, July and September at the homes of the Altoona Curve (Pennsylvania), Midland RockHounds (Texas), Mississippi Braves and Memphis Redbirds — all teams owned by Diamond Baseball Holdings.
The series is expected to expand to more artists and ballparks over the coming months and years, with updates announced throughout the year.
The Grizzlies and Chukshansi Park are no strangers to world-renowned talent; last year, they played home to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert and featured T.I. and Lil Jon at the first annual Tequilafest. They also announced their lineup for this year’s Tequilafest, featuring T-Pain and Busta Rhymes this May.
Tickets for the event go on sale Friday, May 3 at 10 a.m. at fresnogrizzlies.com/events or at the Chukchansi Park ticket office. The concert is expected to sell out.
