Dungeon masters have a new place to call home in Fresno, following the opening of Dragon’s Hoard, a tabletop gaming store. The store at 3058 W. Bullard Ave. focuses on providing the tabletop gaming community with a place to socialize, shop for game pieces and accessories and, of course, facilitate the growing demand for in-person, one-shot sessions.

Owned by Brady and Jen Baxter, Dragon’s Hoard opened in November, and has already had to expand their hours of operation, keeping the location open longer than anticipated to accommodate the high demand of gamers.

The Baxters moved to the Fresno area six years ago mainly because of the potential for economic growth. The couple bought a house and settled down.

“We’ve both been into this style of game our whole lives,” said Brady, co-owner and CFO for Dragon’s Hoard. “We saw an underserved part of the community that really wanted it but had nowhere to go.”

The store primarily focuses on Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) and other tabletop style board games and card games. They also offer accessories, dice, 3D printing and terrain building, as well as card decks, plush toys and collectibles.

Brady and Jen, who have been avid D&D players for years, said they opened the store with the hopes of bringing an underserved part of the tabletop gaming community a place to not only buy merchandise for their own games, but also serve as a “meeting location” for other tabletop gamers.

“A lot of people that play this don’t have somewhere to go play,” Brady said. “We have a board where you can post the games you’re running, and if you want more people, you just recruit a party member.”

Brady said Dragon’s Hoard partners with other businesses including Bird Dog Electronics and Blue Shell Gaming, doing their best to spread interest in the tabletop gaming community.

“I never really saw a D&D place where I felt like I could just walk in and find a group,” Brady said. “I wanted to provide a place that could assist people to find people that were interested.”

Dragon’s Hoard hosts games every Friday night from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and again from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Brady added that frequently, games will run long, and will always be allowed to finish.

They also host demo days on Saturdays, allowing players to play a game from the shelf before deciding to purchase it.

Reservations for game tables are $5 for organizers, but attending and participating is free. The store has room for up to 24 players, and hopes to expand in the future.
