It is said that the fruit of hard work is the sweetest.
Unfortunately, Fresno might not be picking the sweetest fruit.
Wallethub, the personal finance website, released a study in February comparing the largest 116 cities to determine the hardest-working cities in the U.S. and Fresno ranks at the bottom at 113th.
San Francisco topped the list as the hardest working city in the U.S. Columbia, South Carolina, ranked at the very bottom of the list.
To determine the hardest-working cities, Wallethub compared 116 of the most populated cities across key dimensions: “direct work factors” and “indirect work factors” and evaluated those dimensions with nine key metrics.
Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the “hardest-working”.
The metrics for “direct work factors” are average work week hours, employment rate, share of workers leaving vacation time unused, share of engaged workers, and idle youth (16-24) rate.
The metrics for “indirect work factors” are average commute time, share of workers with multiple jobs, annual volunteer hours per resident, and average leisure time spent per day.
These metrics give Fresno a total score of 30.66 and leave San Francisco with a total score of 78.52.
