Fresno City Councilmember Luis Chavez and community representatives met Tuesday for the ribbon cutting of Brandhaven Senior Living at the Fancher Creek Town Center.

Named after former Fresno Mayor Lee Brand, the 180-unit facility offers affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments equipped with stainless steel appliances and access to a pool, garden areas, gym, business center and mail room.

It is available for those age 62 and over, though it is not an assisted living center.

It joins the 120-unit affordable housing complex Sarah’s Court, which broke ground last month at the development near Tulare and Clovis avenues that is years in the making.

Brandhaven is the product of more than a decade’s work by the City of Fresno and partners to provide affordable housing. Once the facility — being developed by Lance-Kashian & Co. — is operational, the development will have about 300 units of affordable housing.

“We’ve done great work in the past years to bring much needed housing to the revenue in this city. Today’s mission is to invest in diverse communities with financing programs that help more Californians have a place to call home and that’s exactly what this place is,” said Fresno Housing CEO Tyrone Roderick Williams.

Chavez and community representatives shared that this accomplishment could not have been met without extensive support from the project’s partners. Equity partners for the Brandhaven project include Redstone Equity Partners, CVS, Aetna, Matt Gross, Paula Flores, Bill Flores, Melissa Anderson, Addison Beverly, Susan Vogt and Trish Beverley.

“I think the worst kept secret is that affordable housing is not that affordable and it’s not that easy to build. But we do that because of what it means to our community and what it means for our senior citizens in southeast Fresno,” said Chavez. “We pride ourselves in making sure that we provide state of the art facilities for our community.”

Bank of the West also served as a construction lender for the project, along with countless other organizations and community members that helped the project come to fruition.

Located at 150 N. Salma Ave. Fresno, CA 93727, Brandhave Senior Living is now leasing.
