Burbank-based mobile health provider West Coast Wound and Skin Care has opened a new Fresno location to serve the Central Valley in a new way.

West Coast Wound and Skin Care offers patients either clinical or in-person care located at their office at 3636 N. First St., Suite 142.

With new locations being announced throughout the West Coast, the Fresno location is one of several new service centers for the company.

“It’s a big hub for health care,” said Dr. David Kay, a physician at West Coast Wound and Skin Care. “When we started building our practice out in Fresno, we realized that there are two main wound care centers in the local area that people may or may not have been super happy with.”

Kay hopes that the opening of the new clinic will change that opinion for patients.

Offering a full spectrum of skin and wound care, the clinic utilizes a unique system — sending health care professionals out into the patient’s home to provide assistance.

“We’re trying to meet the needs of people who would love to have care in their home, but would also like to come to a wound center,” Kay said. “We send physicians, nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants to the home of patients that have difficulty getting to the clinic.”

Kay is not aware of another provider that employs this unique system.

Despite the necessity of social distancing brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, Kay says the mobile system used by the clinic has been in use since before the pandemic.

“We’re trying to meet the needs of people who would love to have care in their home, but also would like to come to a wound center,” Kay said.

West Coast Wound and Skin Care prides themselves on treating a wide range of skin issues, from diabetic and vascular wounds, to trauma and surgical scarring.

“We treat a full spectrum array of wounds,” said Kay. “Most wound centers focus solely on the wounds and doing surgical procedure; we take the patient holistically — not just the wound itself, but nutrition, the mobility issues, and the issues they feel are important at home.”

With West Coast Wound and Skin care’s mobile reach, Kay hopes the Central Valley will become more skin conscious and healthy.

“There’s a lot of potential benefit to educating our patients to help keep wounds clean and keep skin intact and moisturized,” Kay said, adding that the climate of the Central Valley poses unique challenges in keeping wounds clean.

In addition, Kay says that the clinic hopes to improve the health of the large population of migrant workers in and around the Central Valley.

West Coast Wound and Skin Care will provide service in the Valley from Tulare up to Modesto via mobile services and their in-person clinic.

The center is currently open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays. The center is currently accepting patients via phone or at their website.
