When the Sierra Nut House at Sierra and Chestnut avenues shut its doors earlier this year, owner Joann Sorrenti said the business would be seeking a new location in Clovis, but that their other location at the Villaggio Shopping Center would remain open.
A short month later, Sorrenti learned she will need to find a new home to replace the Villaggio location by the end of the year.
When news broke Friday about Sam’s Italian Deli and Bistro planning a new location at the Villaggio Shopping Center, the future of the Sierra Nut House was called into question; with its original store shuttering in January, the news of the second store closing spelled uncertainty for the Fresno-based fruit and nut company, which is also home to a wine bar and bistro at the Villaggio location.
“I was just stunned,” Sorrenti said Monday. “I didn’t know anything about it; the lease isn’t up until the end of the year and I was going to contact the landlord.”
Sorrenti, who has been a tenant at the Villaggio location since the shopping center opened in the early 2000s, said that she has never fallen behind on rent and that she received no notification to renew the lease from the property manager Manco Abbott or Retail California — who represents the landlord.
“I never have heard a thing from them,” she said.
Sorrenti has since found a space in Clovis to replace the Sierra and Chestnut store and plans to move in by early April.
The Clovis location, however, will not accommodate a wine bar and bistro — something the Villaggio location boasts.
Sorrenti said that she will be looking for a new location to replace the Villaggio store, but has not had the opportunity to search for one yet.
“I wasn’t even in town on Friday,” Sorrenti said. “I don’t know what we’re doing.”
Sorrenti said that the Villaggio store will remain open until the end of the year.
“By then, we’ll know what we’re doing,” she said.
