Los Angeles-based Community Infrastructure Investment Group, Inc. (CIIG) has received a $2 million tax credit to establish a wastewater treatment equipment manufacturing facility in Fresno.

The allocation is part of nearly $100 million in the latest round California Competes Tax Credits awarded through the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, or GO-Biz.

As part of its application, CIIG certifies that without this award, the project could go to another state and result in the loss of California jobs.

CIIG President Eric Leung signed on to the tax agreement.

In the five-year span of the tax agreement, CIIG intends to invest $12.8 million and hire 47 new full-time employees with a cumulative average annual wage of $62,750, according to the tax agreement.

CIIG specializes in packaged wastewater treatment systems for communities campgrounds and commercial facilities requiring on-site treatment. It also provides design-build services for residential and commercial construction, according to its website.

Their systems promise a 50% reduced footprint and 30-40% reduction in energy consumption, according to the CIIG website.

Featured projects include the 200-unit Los Rancho Mobile Home community in Los Angeles County and an RV campground in Morgan Hill. It says it has completed more than 50 projects with more than 2 million square feet built and 10-plus million gallons of wastewater treated daily.

The California Competes Tax Credit was created in 2013 to focus on helping businesses grow and stay in California. GO-Biz evaluates the most competitive applications based on the factors required by statute, including total jobs created, total investment, average wage, economic impact, strategic importance and more.

California Competes credits have been awarded to more than 1,200 businesses committed to creating nearly 160,000 full-time California jobs generating more than $50 billion in private investment.

The latest round of California Competes Tax Credits will support an estimated creation of 2,752 new jobs with an average weighted annual salary of $139,000, and will bring in more than $370 million in new private investment, according to GO-Biz.

“These companies represent the next generation of California innovation,” said Dee Dee Myers, senior advisor to Gov. Newsom and director of GO-Biz. “From advanced manufacturing to clean technology, these investments strengthen the industries that define our economy and accelerate inclusive, economic growth across the state.”
