With a combined 211 years of recognizing Veterans Day, a pair of local parades will be broadcast live on Central Valley airwaves Monday.
ABC30 will broadcast Fresno’s 105th Central Valley Veterans Day Parade in its entirety beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, showcasing more than 100 parade entries from each military branch to local high school bands, organizations and other floats and entries.
The parade is expected to draw around 20,000 spectators, according to ABC30. Retired U.S. Navy Cpt. Adan Jason Covarrubias from the Lemoore Naval Air Station will serve as the parade’s grand marshal.
ABC30 hosts Warren Armstrong and Graciela Moreno will host the live broadcast, which can be seen locally on cable networks, as well as via abc.com, the ABC Central Ca apps or YouTube.
Approximately 70 miles south east, Porterville will host its 106th Veterans Day Parade beginning at 10 a.m. on Main Street in Downtown Porterville.
The parade will be showcased in its entirety by KSEE24 in conjunction with Mister Media starting at 10 a.m.
The Porterville Veterans Parade serves as the longest-running Veterans Day Parade in the nation. Porterville — whose 40 casualties during the Vietnam War were more than any other U.S. city during the war — has a long history of honoring the armed services with several memorials dedicated to veterans scattered throughout town.
The parade will also include a special opening tribute by Skydive Elsinore (SDE), featuring skydivers landing on Main Street in front of city hall just before the parade kicks off.
The Veterans Day Run & Walk will also take place prior to the start of the parade starting at 7:30 a.m. Registration for the 5K and 10K run and walk is $30 and $10 for veterans, with registration available at the city’s website.
