Celebrity comedian and podcaster Bill Burr had high praise for MEGA Texas Barbeque, a local restaurant just east of Downtown Fresno, on his Monday Morning Podcast last Thursday.
Burr, who will be performing at Warnors Theatre on Wednesday, talked about how he will be eating “perfect” until he returns to MEGA Texas Barbeque.
Burr was making a point about not discounting that excellent and unique things that often-overlooked cities can offer.
The podcast comments were first shared on the Fresno Reddit page.
His favorite item at MEGA Texas Barbeque, which was named as one of the top 50 barbeque joints in the country by Texas Monthly, is the Texas twinkie. A Texas twinkie is similar to a Jalapeño popper, in addition to being filled with cream cheese, it is also stuffed with brisket, bacon-wrapped and then smoked.
He used more than a few F-bombs to drive the point home.
“It was delicious,” Burr said on his podcast. “And it also had the nice kick of the jalapeño.”
He also gave tickets to his July 26 show at Table Mountain Casino to MEGA Texas Barbeque owners Anthony and Tasha Vallejo.
This isn’t the first time a well known comedian/podcaster has spoken highly of a locally owned restaurant.
In 2019, Joe Rogan talked about eating at Chef Paul’s Cafe in Chinatown.
“That place is amazing,” Rogan said on his podcast.
