The City of Visalia has chosen a new community development director to begin working in the New Year.

According to a news release, Curtis Cannon was approved by the city council in a unanimous vote.

“A broad recruitment process was conducted and based on the assessment of experience, skills and potential organizational fit, we found Curtis to be the right choice for our city,” said Randy Groom, city manager. “He thoroughly understands the needs of the Department and will be a great addition to the team. He is anxious to become not only a part of our organization, but a part of the Visalia community.”

Cannon came to Visalia from the City of Palmdale, where he’s currently the economic development manager. Previous experience includes 16 years with the City of Oxnard and 28 years in redevelopment, real estate transactions, planning affordable housing and capital improvement projects.

“I do appreciate this opportunity, and my family and I are excited for this next chapter,” Cannon said. “I’ve worked for several different agencies throughout my career and I think my experience will meld well with what is already in place. I look forward to having a long-standing relationship with the city and the community.”

Cannon will officially start with the City of Visalia on Jan. 6, 2020
