Starting on Oct. 22, two start-up businesses — Vintage Drip Clothing and Judging by the Cover – A Bookstore, LLC — will occupy the once inhabited F Street Plaza Mini Mall in Chinatown.

The two businesses will be housed in the Pop-Up Place, where the Chinatown Fresno Foundation will be paying for the rent. The Chinatown Fresno Foundation will also oversee the two businesses during the six month period that will end in April.

During the six months, the Chinatown Fresno Foundation hopes the two will have enough experience to each open their own stores in the future.

Fewer than ten businesses applied for the program. Vintage Drip Clothing and Judging by the Cover were chosen due to their passion, vision, innovation and several other reasons according to Jan Minami, project director and  community development marketing specialist for the Chinatown Fresno Foundation.

Here’s what visitors can expect from the two businesses when the Pop-Up Place opens on Tuesday:

Vintage Drip Clothing

Vintage Drip Clothing will have a very distinct vibe that will make it stand apart from a typical thrift store.

It will heavily lean on an ‘80s and ‘90s feel as its goal is to bring a nostalgic feeling to millennials.

Judging by the Cover – A Bookstore, LLC

Judging by the Cover is a husband and wife family-owned business that was primarily online-based.

They specialize in selling books that tell a variety of stories across multiple genres.

Their section of the store will feature a reading corner where visitors can sit down and read a book in a quiet environment.

During the six-month period, the stores will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m on Tuesday through Saturday.
