A Central Valley boxing superstar will look to continue his unbeaten streak this weekend.

Tulare’s Richard Torrez Jr. (13-0 11 KO’s) will face off against Tomas Salek (23-7 14 KO’s) on Saturday, Nov. 15, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

The fight will start at 5 p.m. on the Top Rank Classics FAST Channel and will be free to stream for all viewers.

The Top Rank Classics FAST Channel is available on The Roku Channel, Tubi or Vizio.

Torrez is ranked fourth in the heavyweight division by the International Boxing Federation. He competed at the 2020 Olympics, winning a silver medal.

He said he is riding the momentum of his last match held in April at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

“The win over Guido Vianello gave me a newfound confidence,” Torrez said. “I’m currently ranked No. 4 by the IBF. That gives me the confidence and the drive to move forward and prove to everyone back home watching that their cheers aren’t in vain.”

The seven month layoff between fights is his longest since he turned pro.

“My opponent is a veteran,” he said. “He’s been here before. I’m excited to show what I have to offer. I’ve trained really hard. I haven’t fought since April. It’s been my biggest layoff as a pro, and I’m pumped to get back into the ring. I’m eager, and come Saturday night, you’re going to see a lot of punches thrown.”

A Mexican-American, Torrez is the product of a three-generation boxing family.

“This is my first time fighting in Mexico,” Torrez said. “I’ve been here once or twice before, but I’m excited to come here and show everyone what I’m about.”
