As supply shortages fuel the rising price of used cars nationwide, the price for autos in Fresno and Visalia accelerated faster than the national average.

The 36% average increase in used car prices tied the Central Valley for Washington D.C. at No. 11 in U.S. metros with the biggest year-over-year price change for February, according to a study from iSeeCars.

The study also explored the cars that had the biggest price gains in the Fresno market.

The Toyota Corolla led the way with a 43.6% price change from February 2021, translating to a $6,776 increase in cost.

Toyota Camry came in second with a 42.2%, followed by the Honda Civic hatchback, the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Traverse, which revved up 41.1%, 40.8% and 40.4% respectively.

Nationwide, prices increased on average 35%, with the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid climbing 61.2% more.

Two electric vehicles made the list with the Nissan LEAF and Tesla Model S at No. 3 and No. 8, respectively.

The Maserati Levante, Porsche Macan and Jaguar F-Pace rounded out the three used cars with the smallest price increases.

The report attributes the rise in used car values to shuttered factories and microchip shortages limiting new car production, sending consumers to used car lots for their next vehicle. And with the invasion of Ukraine shutting down Ukrainian production of neon gas for microchips and embargoes on Russian goods limiting access to nickel, palladium and aluminum used for cars, experts don’t expect prices to return to normalcy any time soon.
