After only a month in business, North Fresno business owner Colton Carroll has seen business fly off the leash since opening Canine Club — a self-wash and grooming business for four-legged friends.
Carroll, a Clovis native and golf enthusiast with a background in construction, started on the project last year. It is located at 2088 E. Copper Ave., Ste. 202, near Maple Avenue.
Carroll, who was a member of the first graduating class of Clovis North High School, drew on his background in construction and interest in golf in sharing design ideas with Clovis-based Five Creative, which helped create his vision.
“I just had all of these ideas going in my mind,” Carroll said
Carroll’s vision became a reality when the business opened its doors in December. Carroll said his goal in the first month of business was to serve 100 dogs.
They served more than 300.
“It seems like the community is really excited to have us here,” he said. “We’re getting really good feedback.”
Canine Club features six dog-washing stations, each equipped with a hose and dryer. They are able to accommodate dogs from small breeds under 25 pounds to large dogs exceeding 80 pounds. Water at the Canine Club is kept at a lukewarm 100 degrees, providing comfort for furry companions in the cold of winter or the summer heat.
Canine Club also carries pet accessories, including Herzog leashes, bowls and other products.
Carroll previously worked at nearby Copper River County Club, as well as Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, before returning to the Valley.
“I live and breathe golf,” Carroll said. “I like the theme of it, and I kind of brought that in and tied it into what we’re doing here.”
The tie-ins aren’t just limited to the name of the business. Golf-themed options including the “Pro Wash” and “Pro Shop Grooming,” along with customer punch cards — “Scorecards” — being implemented in the coming months, rewarding return customers with a free wash with ten Scorecard punches.
Carroll hopes his different package options, Scorecards and a-la-carte services including nail trimming and teeth brushing, along with the store’s on-site professional grooming center, will set Canine Club apart from other businesses following a similar model.
Carroll noted that many customers are also Copper River members, adding that business cards left at the club have drawn several customers in.
Canine Club is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
