Hanford was named as one of the top three cities for clinical, counseling and school psychologists in the United States.
According to a study by ProCare Therapy, a staffing and therapist jobs database, Hanford came in third in the nation behind only Providence, Rhode Island and Kingston, New York. The study revealed that Hanford was the highest-paying city for psychologists out of the 50 locations examined, and also had the best employment opportunities with 35 jobs for clinical, counseling and school psychologists for every 10,000 jobs.
Hanford was one of three cities in California (the other two being Sacramento and El Centro) to make the top ten list, tying with New York for the number of towns and cities.
“Although each state will have its own exciting opportunities, we were struck by the dominance of cities in New York and California,” said Stephanie Morris, vice president at ProCare Therapy. “This was due largely to the excellent average salaries these states pay their psychologists — even after adjusting for higher-than-average costs of living.”
Overall rankings were calculated using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on multiple job profiles, including clinical, counseling and school psychologists. All available metropolitan areas were ranked by jobs per 10,000 to get an initial top 50.
