Using metrics including human capital, education and culture and economic activity, Fresno has been ranked the No. 81 most dynamic urban center in the U.S., according to real estate search website.

The analysis from Point 2 Homes, an international real estate search portal, examined 18 data points across the areas listed above, as well as housing. Fresno placed at 81, between Huntsville, Alabama (No. 80) and Sioux Falls, South Dakota (No. 81) A total of 150 cities were ranked.

Looking at only the 35 largest cities with populations of more than 500,000, Fresno comes in at No. 22.

San Francisco was named the top most dynamic urban center, followed by Seattle, Washington; Denver, Colorado; Aurora, Colorado; and Grand Prairie, Texas to round out the top five.

Fresno stands out for its significant increase in the number of internet subscriptions, coming in at 16th out of 150 from 2013-2017. Fresno also saw the 25th largest increase in the number of building permits from 2014-2018.

Fresno also ranked 25th for the growth of people employed in the arts and entertainment industries.

The study looked at other metrics including population growth, decrease in median age, increase in foreign-born population, decrease in poverty level and home price appreciation.
