A new study has determined that Fresno is among the top 10 US cities where education pays off the most.

The SmartAsset study uses Census information to rank the value of a high school, associate’s, bachelor’s and graduate degree in terms of how much a worker earns. Fresno came in at No. 8 on the list, tied with San Francisco.

A graduate degree goes a long way in Fresno — on average those with advanced degrees earn 60 percent more than those with bachelor’s degrees, according to Smart Asset. That works out to about $28,000 more.

Workers in Fresno who finish high school earn 53 percent (or $9,000) more than workers who don’t finish high school.

Jersey City, New Jersey earned the No. 1 spot on the list, followed by San Jose at second and Arlington, Virginia; Huntsville, Alabama; and Cary, North Carolina in a three-way tie for third.
