Southeast Fresno has been selected for a new grocery store that has thus far been confined to the north Fresno-Clovis area.

Luis Chavez, District Five representative on the Fresno City Council, announced Thursday that a Sprouts Farmers Market location will be coming soon to the Fancher Creek development at Clovis Avenue and Tulare Street.

It will be part of the next phase of the Fancher Creek Town Center, in a “power” retail center called “The Marketplace at Fancher Creek.”

No timeline for construction or opening was announced Thursday.

A power center typically has three or more so-called “big box” anchor stores, or “category killers,” including home improvement, discount department, warehouse club and off-price stores, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers.

The average size is just shy of 500,000 square feet in total.

In a video posted on social media, Councilmember Chavez said there will be 8-10 more tenants for The Marketplace at Fancher Creek announced soon.

Sprouts was the catch of the day Thursday for Chavez and his district. A Sprouts Farms Market opened in Clovis near Clovis and Herndon avenues in 2016. A location at 7477 N. Blackstone Ave. in Fresno near the River Park shopping center opened in 2013 in a former Sports Authority location.

“We’re happy and excited that they will be coming soon to Southeast Fresno,” Chavez said.

The Fancher Creek Town Center project is being developed by Lance Kashian & Co.
