The newly reopened Sequoia Brewing Co. in Fresno is showing some love to furloughed federal employees facing the prospect of a missed paycheck with its (Un)Happy Hour promotion.

Guests to the Champlain Avenue location of Sequoia Brewing, which reopened on Oct. 10 under new ownership, are eligible for discounts including 15% off all starters and Happy Hour well-drink prices. The promotion is available only to those who can show a federal ID or a .gov email account and their families. Contractors are welcome with an agency badge or letter of authorization. It runs Monday through Friday from 5-9 p.m. until the shutdown — in its 21st day — ends.

“We know this period is stressful for a lot of local families,” said Stacey Dwyer, operations manager at Sequoia Brewing, in a news release.. “Our (Un)Happy Hour is a simple way to give folks a break with good food, fair prices and a place to unwind together.”

Starters eligible for the discount include guest favorites including quesadillas, beercuterie board, wings, nachos and mozzarella sticks.

Many federal workers are due to be paid by this Friday, Oct. 24, and could miss their first full paycheck.

“Our team is here to make it easy—show your badge or .gov email and we’ll take care of the rest,” Dwyer added. “When the budget’s frozen, the beer isn’t.”

Institutions and businesses across the country are offering support to furloughed workers. EECU announced an assistance package for members affected by the shutdown that includes a skipped loan payment and an emergency, no-interest loan for up to 30 days up to $10,000.
