New frights will becoming to Fresno soon with a new Halloween event.
The former Walmart space on Shaw and Brawley avenues will be hosting Scare Factory Fresno, a Halloween attraction that will feature haunted walk-through mazes, escape style scare rooms and food and gift vendors.
The event will run from Sept. 27 to Nov. 3 and will mark the first time the former Walmart space has been used since it closed its doors in 2018.
Tony Gonzales, one of three owners putting on the event, said the haunted attractions and the vendors will cover about 66,000 square feet.
Gonzales said this will be the first time they have hosted a haunted event of this magnitude. The owners are big Halloween fans.
A Central Valley native, Gonzales comes from a business background and owns several rental businesses including boats and construction vehicles. Gonzales has been involved in the past with haunted houses and building them on a smaller scale, and small concerts.
He said that while he enjoys events like Raisin Hell Ranch and Hobb’s Grove, Scare Factory Fresno wanted to provide an indoor option.
“We figured that people might like to have some sort of indoor event, but we knew that we need to be on a large scale and this is the largest one the Central Valley’s ever had,” Gonzales said.
Having the event inside will be more attractive to people who might want to avoid dust or have pollen allergies.
The maze attractions will be themed Killer Klown, 13th Floor, and Manson Manor.
The escape-style scare rooms are Escape the Darkness, The Exorcism and The Execution Room.
Gonzales said they are still looking for scare employees, aiming to hire approximately 50 people in total.
Mystery clues will be riddled on the attraction walls to provide people with more than jump scares.
All the attractions have been built from scratch with $50,000 invested in just the lumber, and around $200,000 into the entire event, Gonzales said.
“It’s a big risk, so we are hoping we can do this every year and have it be worth it,” Gonzales.
He said some of the proceeds will go local animal shelters.
