One of the largest owners of television stations in the U.S. seeks to sell 30% of its portfolio, according to CNBC, and Fresno’s KMPH could be part of the sale.
CNBC reported the Maryland-based Sinclair Broadcast Group — owner or operator of 185 stations in 86 markets — has engaged an investment banker and identified more than 60 stations it could be open to selling.
Sinclair is willing to part with all or some of the stations with a mix of affiliates in top markets including Minneapolis, Minnesota; Portland, Oregon; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Austin, Texas, and Fresno.
Sinclair CEO Chris Ripley said in an earnings call Wednesday that the broadcaster would explore selling off assets if it makes sense to realize value and reduce debt.
“We have no sacred cows,” Ripley said in the earnings call, according to a transcript.
In 2013, Sinclair closed on an acquisition of four Titan Broadcasting stations, including Fox affiliate KMPH and CW affiliate KFRE in Fresno, for $115.35 million.
CNBC reports that the 60 Sinclair stations if sold together have average revenue for 2023 and 2024 of $1.56 billion.
