A national hair salon franchise is offering clients a deal to cut down the price for haircuts.

Fresno Supercuts locations recently launched their “Supercuts Unlimited” subscription, offering unlimited haircuts all year long for $21.99 a month.

Jasmine Harris, Supercuts senior district leader of the area, has been with the company for 20 years, working behind the chair and as a salon manager.

Harris manages 11 Supercuts locations in the Fresno area, as well as locations in Madera, Kings and Tulare.

Since Supercuts is a value-based salon concept, Harris said their clients are looking for deals, with their new subscription service filling that need.

“It helps us give our customers what they are looking for so that they could come in more often,” Harris said.

Jason Siska, vice president of Moxie Management Group, a franchise of Supercuts with 78 locations in the state, said their traffic is up about 7% this year while traffic at other salons is going down. That creates more opportunity for their stylists.

“It’s not only helping the guest by giving them the value of a discount, which isn’t even really a discount, but more of a reward for their loyalty but it means more tips for our stylists,” Siska said.

He noted that some barbershops charge up to $50 for a single haircut, which is not as attractive to people trying to save money because of economic conditions.

She said Supercuts has actually seen growth in their customer accounts, higher than it was last year.

There has been a recent boom in the popularity of more traditional men’s barbershops, but Harris said Supercuts caters more to the whole family.

The salons in the area just saw the back-to-school rush, with boys and younger men asking for trending haircuts, including the “broccoli” haircut, “llama/alpaca” haircut and the “Edgar” haircut, which leaves the hair longer and in the shape of a bowl and was a bit more popular last year.

Social media has changed how people choose their hairstyles, going from what was called the “look book,” which had photographs of various hairstyles, to people looking up pictures on their phones. Hence, popular hairstyles are amplified on Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest, Harris said.

Because there are a number of beauty schools in the area, including Milan Institute, Lyle’s Beauty College and For3ign Beauty, there is typically a lot of barbers and stylists available.

Harris said the attention to ongoing training is what helps Supercuts maintain strong staffing levels, providing ongoing hands-on training with the Supercuts technique to help make them more efficient.

“Having that ability to grow their skill levels keeps our staffing strong and all the training is paid for by the company,” Harris said.
