A state program that pumped $66.5 million in cap-and-trade funds toward green economic development in Fresno is taking applications once again.

The Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Program has $99.2 million in funding available for underserved communities to plan and implement capital infrastructure projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve public health and expand economic opportunity for residents, according to a news release.

It is the fifth funding round for the TCC Program, which is administered through the California Strategic Growth Council. TCC has awarded $326 million to more than 30 burdened communities in California since 2016.

A couple dozen projects in Fresno received TCC funding in 2019, including $16.9 million for Fresno City College’s West Fresno satellite campus and $24 million for the 56-unit Monarch affordable apartments in Chinatown. The funds were dedicated to projects located in downtown, southwest Fresno and Chinatown.

The application process for the next round of TCC funding began March 8. Application workshops will be held via zoom March 22-23.

In addition to local governments, eligible applicants including community-based organizations, nonprofits, faith-based organization, Native American tribes and more.
