A breakfast restaurant in Northwest Fresno has closed its doors suddenly, leaving customers and nearby neighbors hungry and baffled.

Daddy Waffles, located at the corner of Marks and Herndon avenues, has been closed for a few weeks, according to a nearby store owner and workers. Daddy Waffles, which lacks a social media presence, is listed on Yelp with several comments about the store’s closure dating to mid-October.

The restaurant, which opened in November 2022, has no signage notifying its customers of the closure. Inside, chairs are stacked behind the doors.

The restaurant’s operating hours, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, remain posted.

An employee from one of the restaurant’s equipment suppliers confirmed the closure, adding that the restaurant was taken off its client list earlier this month.

The restaurant’s owner, Ammar Ibrahim, previously owned The Waffle Shop Country Cooking, which closed its Fig Garden Loop location in 2023. He drew media attention in 2020 when he went against state orders to close its dining room. The eatery was also the scene of protests against mandated business closures.

In summer 2020, one of Ibrahim’s social media posts drew a response from the NAACP. The post was made during the nationwide protests against the death of George Floyd

Phone calls to the restaurant remained unanswered as of Monday morning.
