Discovery Behavioral Health has opened a new mental health facility meant to treat adolescents in Fresnotoday.
“The small, intimate setting treating a maximum of six clients at one time affords the most personalized care available and a high staff to client ratio,” said Amy Brown, director of operations.
Located at 214 W. Bluff Ave., Discovery’s Resilience Teen Mental Health Treatment Center is 4,937 square feet and offers specialties for the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, self-harm/self-injury, suicidal behavior, and adoption and attachment issues.
The facility is accredited from the Joint Commission and holds the same accreditation and certification as hospitals and considered the gold standard, but the inpatient treatment takes place in an estate-style home rather than an institutional setting. Currently it is the only center of its kind here in the Central Valley.
“There are a myriad of reasons why teens resort to suicide and suffer from other forms of self-injury, depression, and anxiety disorders, for example, bullying and social isolation, loss of relationships, and drug and alcohol use,” Brown said. “But at the top of the list is the limited access to specialized, evidenced-based mental health services designed specifically for young people. Our new center now opens the door to treat adolescent mental health illnesses in the Fresno area.”
