Volaris Airlines has begun offering non-stop flights between Fresno Yosemite International Airport and León, Mexico.

The twice-weekly flights began last week, on top of the flights the airline already offers to the Mexican cities of Guadalajara and Morelia.

In support of cross-promoting tourism between Central California and the state of Guanajuato, the Fresno/Clovis Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Visalia Convention & Visitors Bureau and Visit Yosemite Madera County collaborated to host the Secretary of Tourism for the state of Guanajuato and travel agents from that region who will book trips here. They arrived here Tuesday on the inaugural flight to explore some Valley tourist destinations, and the return fight to León, in the central Mexico highlands, included representatives from the travel and tourism industry here who explored tourist and cultural sites there.

“These efforts clearly align with our shared purpose to promote Central California as a must-see destination by expanding tourism connections with the international travel industry,” said Kevin Meikle, Fresno’s director of aviation, in a written statement.

The flights between Fresno and León will occur on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Flight reservations can be made online at www.volaris.com or by calling 855-865-2747.
