A new business in Southeast Fresno will be hosting a grand opening celebration event Saturday.

Mochilicious, located in the Vallarta Supermarkets shopping center on Chestnut and Butler avenues, is hosting the family-friendly event this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mochi donuts, also known as poi mochi, are a fusion pastry crossing traditional American doughnuts and Japanese mochi, a rice cake made of short-grain glutinous rice.

Mochilicious was opened by owner Jimmy In and his wife Monique Keo at the end of September, inspired to open up a business to help overcome the tragic loss of their son, Nathan, 20, who passed away from an overdose in 2021.

The event will be kicked off with a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. and will also feature a car show, face painting, free samples of new mochi donut flavors, a Door Prize for the first 25 purchases and a longest cheese pull contest with a prize of a pair of retro Nike shoes.

The winner of the cheese pull contest, which is pulling a cheese stick  apart in attempt to make the longest cheese string before it rips, will be announced at 2 p.m.

Mochilicious is located at 4823 E. Butler Ave.
