Madera County has signed a new contract for its ambulance services.

Madera County Supervisor Jordan Wamhoff announced the approval of a new contract between the county and Pistoresi Ambulance of Madera County, Inc.

It is the first comprehensive overhaul for ambulance service since 1984, delivering a key campaign promise made by Wamhoff when he was elected in 2022, according to a news release from his office.

Pistoresi Ambulance has been providing emergency medical services in Madera County  for over 50 years.

“I am deeply grateful to the many stakeholders who worked tirelessly to make this contract a reality,” said Wamhoff. “This is a huge win for public safety in Madera County. The improvements we’ve secured in this contract will have a direct and positive impact on the lives of our residents.”

A major improvement under the agreement is the reclassification of several zones in the county from “rural” to “suburban.” The areas reclassified under the agreement include Eastside Acres, Madera/Bonadelle Ranchos, Tesoro Viejo, Riverstone, Rolling Hills and  others.

This change reduces the allowable response time for high-priority calls from 20 minutes to just 12 minutes. It also introduces penalties to Pistoresi Ambulance if critical response time requirements are not met.
