A long-closed Tower District basement club is expected to reopen in May.

The Babylon closed in 2012 after thieves caused flooding to the below-ground dance and concert venue. Laura Barboza, who also owns and operates the Azteca Theater in Chinatown, leased the space and hopes to reopen next month, operating much as the club did before, minus the pool tables, she said.

The 11,000-square foot club will continue the Babylon name and host music and public events, Barboza said.

Shane Sousa and Nick Frechou of Retail California brokered the deal.
