U.S. News and World Report, one of the world’s leading outlets for rankings, analysis and consumer recommendations, released its Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers ratings of outpatient centers, and both Fresno and Tulare counties are each home to ambulatory centers named “best” in the annual report.

The report, which ranks ambulatory surgery centers on a scale of one to three, evaluates the centers based on risk-adjusted measures of patient outcomes, including complications, ER visits, unplanned hospital visits and other undesirable results.

The analysis also accounts for patient factors, including pre-existing conditions.

Overall, 16 ambulatory surgery centers in Fresno County received rankings, with four Tulare County centers, two Kings County centers and one center in Madera County ranked.

Overall, only four surgical centers in the four counties received scores of “one.”

Four surgery centers (three in Fresno County and one in Tulare County) were also named Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers, reflecting the highest-rated surgery centers.

Less than 15% of facilities evaluated earned a “high performing” (3/3) rating.

“Same-day procedures play an increasingly prominent role in health care as an alternative to overnight hospital care,” said U.S. News and World Report chief of health analysis and managing editor Ben Harder. “Building on our 34 years of experience evaluating Best Hospitals, we’re proud to give patients this new, free, data-driven tool to help them navigate their health care needs.”
