Kaweah Health is updating its visitor policy to allow visitors to remain overnight with patients, as well as expanding visitor capacity within its emergency department and treatment rooms.

“We understand that being in the hospital can be stressful for patients, and having their support system at their bedside helps them feel more comfortable and supported during their care,” said Kaweah Health Chief Strategy Officer Marc Mertz.

Overnight visitors must be at least 18 years old and must receive an overnight visitor badge prior to the closure of the hospital’s main entrance at 9 p.m. Reentry will not be permitted after 9 p.m.

The policy changes also include allowing children to visit patients, with children under 15 required to be accompanied by an adult.

Additionally, up to four visitors will be permitted in the emergency department waiting room, with two visitors permitted to accompany patients into treatment rooms. The policy, however, states that only one visitor is permitted to remain with the patient if hallways beds or chairs are being utilized.

Visitor numbers will vary based on the number of emergency department patients.

“These new guidelines were written with the well-being of our patients and staff in mind,” Mertz said. “We recognize that working with family members can enhance the care and support our patients receive when they return home. There are also instances when having a family member at the bedside can be an asset to healthcare providers.”
