Kaiser Permanente Northern California announced Monday its health plan has once again been recognized with a five-star rating in patient and member care across multiple specialties, according to the annual Health Care Quality Report Card released by California’s Office of the Patient Advocate (OPA).

Kaiser Permanente’s Northern and Southern California five-star health plan ratings — the highest in the state — are the only two to receive OPA’s highest rating for “quality of medical care.”

Kaiser Permanente Northern and Southern California health plans have achieved five-star ratings for overall clinical effectiveness in behavioral and mental health care for six consecutive years. The provider is also a state leader with five-star ratings for diabetes, cardiac, pulmonology, maternity and pediatric care.

“Kaiser Permanente Northern California continues to stand out as a statewide leader in providing high-quality clinical care to our members and patients,” said Carrie Owen Plietz, FACHE, president of Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California region. “These ratings reflect the unwavering dedication of our physicians, nurses, and staff who strive each day to help our members stay physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy.”

Kaiser Permanente Northern California also received five-star ratings for appropriateness of tests, treatments and procedures, as well as preventative screenings.

The 2024-25 report card provides California customers with comparisons of the 16 largest HMO and PPO health plans in the state, rating its plans on national standard-of-care measures involving treatment and prevention of a range of conditions that can impact health.

OPA ratings align with the recent Covered California ratings that recognized Kaiser Permanente as a five-star rated plan in “Overall Quality Rating.”

Kaiser Permanente Northern California’s health plans also led the state and were among the highest rated in the nation when analyzed by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) 2024 Health Plan Ratings.
