Kaiser Permanente Northern California announced Monday it has been honored with the highest ratings for behavioral and mental health in the annual Health Care Quality Report Card from the California Office of the Patient Advocate (OPA).

The health provider’s five-star ratings for quality of medical care in their Northern California and Southern California regions are the only five-star ratings given by the OPA from the 16 providers listed.

Kaiser Permanente Northern California also received a four-star rating in patient overall experience.

“Kaiser Permanente remains committed to providing our patients, members and the communities we serve with the highest quality of care in the state of California,” said Carrie Owen Plietz, FACHE, president of Kaiser Permanente Northern California. “We are proud to be recognized for consistently delivering excellence across specialty care areas, including the mental health, physical and emotional health care we provide to our patients every day.”

In addition to five-star behavioral and mental health ratings, Kaiser Permanente Northern California also received five-star awards in preventive screenings, diabetes and heart and maternity care, in addition to five-star ratings in providing appropriate tests, treatments and procedures.

The OPA results parallel recent ratings from Covered California which saw Kaiser Permanente as the only health plan receiving a five-star for “Summary Quality Rating.”

Covered California also awarded Kaiser Permanente five stars for “Getting the Right Care” which compares the providers’ care to national standards for patient treatment and care.
