Newsweek Magazine’s 2025 list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals has been released, showcasing 12 Kaiser Permanente Northern California hospitals as best in the nation for maternal and newborn care.

Fresno’s Kaiser Permanente Hospital was among the 12 hospitals receiving the prestigious honor, joining the ranks of Kaiser hospitals in San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Clara and Vallejo.

This year marks the sixth year Kaiser Permanente Northern California hospitals were recognized by Newsweek for meeting maternity care.

“We know the importance of giving babies a healthy start in life, and our labor and delivery teams are providing these new families with quality care as they embark on this exciting chapter in their lives,” said Mike Bowers, interim president of Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California region. “Our Northern California hospitals deliver comprehensive, culturally responsive maternity care in a nurturing environment.”

Kaiser Permanente Northern California hospitals assisted in the delivery of almost 40,000 newborns in 2024.

The national designation was awarded to 444 hospitals throughout the country, with 66 California hospitals noted for their newborn and maternal care. More than 40% of Kaiser hospitals statewide received the honors.

“We take great pride in the clinical excellence achieved by our physicians, midwives, nurses and entire teams and for the personalized care and support given to all our patients,” said Maria Ansari, MD, CEO and executive director of The Permanente Medical Group. “Kaiser Permanente Northern California recognizes the importance of providing safe, comprehensive maternity care for all parents and their babies before, during, and after birth.”
