After six years in business, the owner of Jugo Salad and Juice Bar announced the closure Thursday of his two Fresno stores.

The announcement, posted on social media, said the Fresno locations will be closing their doors in order to plan a second generation vision, combining concepts from Jugo with more options, including a full kitchen.

The Fresno locations are at Milburn and Herndon avenues and Champlain Drive and Perrin Avenue.

A Clovis location at Herndon and Fowler avenues will remain open.

“This is not goodbye but see you again later, bigger and better, when we ‘Rise’ again!” the social media post reads.

Commenters expressed disaapointment while wishing the best of luck to Jugo Salad and Juice Bar and their team.

“No, not Champlain & Perrin. However, when I’m on that side of Herndon I will for sure stop by. Best of luck!” reads one post.

“This breaks my heart for your number 1 employee that was amazing that worked every day during the week!!! She was amazing!” another user commented.

In an interview with ABC30, owner of Jugo Salad and Juice Bar Lewis Everk cited inflation and the continued rise of wages as the main reasons to close the restaurant and potentially redesign his vision.

“I think with the cost of goods across the board, it’s made it really difficult for local business people to sustain these higher costs. It really leaves no room left for a profit,” Everk told ABC30.

Everk went on to explain his plans to create a second-generation Jugo and rebranding. He also hopes to take some of his business to Nashville, citing lower operating costs, wages and the ability to expand his workforce.

“A state like Tennessee, the minimum wage for a tipped employee, which most of our employees are, $2.13 an hour,” Everk continued. “In California, it’s currently for any minimum wage employee $15.50, soon to be $16 come January.”

Everk also owns several other Fresno restaurants — The Woodward American Grill, Vyxn Restaurant and Lounge and several other restaurants, including the lone operating Jugo located in Clovis, all of which will remain open.
