The final piece of the puzzle slid into place this week on a multi-decade effort to bring retail, housing and now a hotel to the Fresno State campus.
Hyatt House Fresno Campus Pointe officially opened its doors on Wednesday, Dec. 10 near the Save Mart Center. The 91,433 square-foot, 138-room, four-story hotel features apartment-style suites, a 24/7 fitness center, outdoor pool and 4,300 square-foot conference center, with room for up to 250 guests.
Leaders, developers and Fresno State representatives were present for the ribbon cutting, marking a milestone for the project led by development firm Lance Kashian. Fresno City Councilmember Tyler Maxwell, Fresno County Assessor Paul Dictos, Fresno Fire Chief Billy Alcorn and others were present for the ribbon cutting.
“It’s been such an incredible experience watching this project flourish over the last couple of years,” Maxwell said.
Maxwell thanked Lance Kashian, as well as Hyatt, the designers, architects and contractors that worked on the project.
Former Fresno State administrator Debbie Astone played an instrumental part in the project’s behind-the-scenes development. She thanked the Lance Kashian team and all involved for the project that saw its concept developed more 22 years ago, specifically thanking developer Ed Kashian for his commitment.
“If it wasn’t for the vision and tenacity and commitment by Mr. Kashian, we would not be standing here today,” she said.
Astone also recognized former Fresno State Professor Jim Aldridge, who played a significant role in the planning and development of Campus Pointe. Aldridge, who died earlier this year, was a major part in establishing five recommendations for the Campus Pointe site plan. In addition to a hotel and retail, and three apartment complexes with a total of 530 units of student, workforce and senior housing.
Hyatt House Fresno’s General Manager Cody Johnson said the team is excited to become part of the Campus Pointe community and looks forward to partnering with various organizations that host events at the Save Mart Center, Fresno State, Campus Pointe and other local and national attractions.
“We look forward to joining this growing community,” Johnson said.
